His second response was better. "I love you"
That's sweet J, but it's still insanely cold out. And it's been like this for too long!
I have asked Jason the above question twice this morning due to the temp. His first response didn't cut it. He said "Because this is the greatest state in the world!"

My mother and sister informed me I forgot to blog about Thanksgiving... oops! :) Thanksgiving was in Montana this past year. I love being able to go home at this time of year. It's just starting to get really busy and we have lots of Christmas plans coming up. Getting to go to Montana where life is peaceful and calm and quiet is such a blessing! The crew in Montana this year were: Mom and Dad (Dad tries so hard to keep his eyes open!) Uncle Richard and Aunt Byrd (or as we used to call him, Uncle Turtle) Jason and I (Jason having just started his winter beard...) And these two clowns! (This is what happens when you take pictures with my camera!) It was a great Thanksgiving. I read The Book Thief out loud to Jason and watched a few Gilmore Girls on our way to and from Montana. While we were home we ate (a lot), hunted (some of us), made vinegar candy (it's really good. way better than it sounds), went bowling, mom made us some signs, and ate some more. Here are a few pictures illustrating our trip!
How do we survive the Christmas season??? Why do we pack so many things into Dec?? I have to constantly stop and remind myself of what the true meaning of Christmas is, and that Christ is the reason for the season. This makes me sad that I have to force myself to remember this. Sometimes I really really miss life in MT, as life there is so much simpler and less hectic. Wait.. am I now complaining?! Let's move on.. We packed 3 Christmas parties into the first weekend of Dec. I also had to teach a craft at our Ladies Fellowship that same weekend. Did I mention this was right in the middle of my jury duty? We hosted a Bunco Party on Dec 6th. Jason's friends usually put it on and host it, but since the host was in the process of selling their homes we agreed to host it. It was a group of 10 and we had so much food, so much Bunco, and of course a crazy gift exchange. This year I won $20 for winning Bunco and I ended up with my own gift in the gift exchange. A Caribou mug and gift card! I'm just glad I didn't end up with the $10 worth of bananas gift. In way we did. When everyone left, we found two or three bunches of bananas hidden in our bed. We have lots of banana bread and chocolate banana muffins in our future! On Dec 7th we had our Ladies Fellowship at Church and I taught the ladies how to make this craft: It was a bit crazy. I had never taught anything like this before in a group and now I know things I should have done differently. But everyone seemed to like the craft and had fun! I mean who doesn't love a cute chalkboard?!
That night we also had a Christmas Party with our youth group. We take them to go caroling and then we have a gift exchange and food after. The next day, Dec 8th, we had our college and career Christmas Party. Same thing.. Caroling and a gift exchange with food. This time I ended up with a hot dog slicer in the shape of a dog.... This past weekend we got our Christmas tree! We go to a farm nearby and we get to take a little tractor ride to the forest and then we get to cut down the tree we pick out! The ladies warm up by the fire afterwards while the men get the tree bundled and strapped to the car. We then went out to eat with Jason's family to celebrate Becky's bday. Now we are looking forward to Jason's sister and her family that are coming out from California! The Cooper's are a very fun/special family, we are excited to see them! We are also looking forward to seeing Phantom Of The Oprah this Christmas!!! My parents are also stopping by for a few days on their way to New Orleans. This past Sunday we had our last Dinner for 6 for the fall/winter. We are looking fwd to that starting up again this winter/spring! And beings that it's Friday and it's been a long week.. I can't wait to get home, get comfy, and to relax in front of the fireplace. I got the notice in the mail a month ago and as I worried about what having jury duty in Dec will mean, everyone (and I mean everyone) told me "Oh don't worry about it. You'll never get picked to be on a jury. You'll sit there for a day and will be bored and then you'll be let go. It's no big deal"
Ha! Everyone was wrong. Note to self, never give advice on something like jury duty because you have no idea how it will go. According to my husband I was "living his dream!". I got a notice in Nov that I would be on call for Jury Duty for the whole month of Dec. No big deal right? Dec is when everyone takes vacation and this year I was the one that couldn't take vacation as I had to cover for everyone. But according to everyone, I wouldn't have to worry as I would never get picked. I went in on Dec 10 and was the second name picked. Due to a snow storm that was coming in, the judge was kind enough to wait a few days to start the trial. I ended up having 4 full days in court taking notes, listening to witnesses and the plaintiff, listening to opening/closing statements/ and receiving instructions from the judge. We then had 2 full days of deliberation. During the trial it was very interesting to see how our whole justice system works. I was the one in the jury box! I was the one (along with 11 others) that the lawyers were trying to convince that their position was right. During the trial the 12 of us were not allowed to talk about the trial and what we thought. We couldn't talk to anyone about it. Then delberation started. Can you think of anything more stressful than trying to get 12 people, who have never met, to try to agree on a just verdict? I would come home feeling stressed and worried and would ask Jason if we could just watch something mind numbing so I could try to sleep that night. When we were in deliberation, the 12 of us were never allowed out of our group. We had an officer with us at all times. The only time we were let out of a very small room was to go eat, and we had to eat together! After the first full day of deliberation, I called home and told dad that there was no way we'd all come to an agreement the next day. We spent a few hours on Wed, and then all of Thursday arguing/talking and no one's view had changed. I told dad we'd need a miracle for us to come to an agreement on Friday and he said "well.. they do happen you know". My parents were praying and I had asked Jason to pray. Friday morning showed that a miracle was indeed taking place! We all finally agreed on a verdict and by 2 or 3 pm we were done! The worst part of jury duty: the drive into Downtown Minneapolis in rush hour, getting home an hour later than normal, the deliberation, and feeling bad that a co-worker had to put her vacation on hold till I got back. The best part of jury duty: seeing how the whole justice process works, meeting interesting people, hearing people's ridiculous reasons for why they couldn't serve, and talking with the judge in her chambers for over 30 mins after the trial was all over! I am proudly displaying my signed certificate from the judge at home! This post is way too long for such a boring blog post. But I'll end it with some entertainment. The reasons why people couldn't serve on the jury (these are in no particular order): ~ bladder control issues (oh boy..) ~ A.D.D. (and I quote "my mind wonders when I'm bored" ... okay.. whose doesn't?!) ~ "I'm Mennonite so I'm religiously opposed to being on a jury" (Wha?! Could I have used this?) ~ After the judge had already asked for any medical reasons why one couldn't serve, we were getting to the end and this lady started to panic and said "I can't do this I can't do this" to us in the jury box and then suddenly seemed to remember "I have a back problem that requires me to walk around for 20 mins every hour." (okay.. ) At the moment that's all I can remember. There were many many more. The judge was pretty kind to let some of these people off. |
